Good Morning,
Welcome back to another edition of 'Chooseday,' where we're on a mission to inspire positive change every week. 🌍❤️ This time, we're putting the spotlight on something truly special – it's National Carers Week 15th - 21st October, and we're encouraging you to 'Choose to Care'! In a world that can sometimes feel overwhelming with disappointing news, natural disasters, and terror, choosing to care is like sending out ripples of goodness. It's about being the bright light in someone's day, even when the skies seem cloudy. 🌤️ Why 'Choose to Care'? Caring for others isn't just about making the world a better place; it's also a powerful act of self-care. When we choose to care, here's what happens: Feel-Good Vibes: It's no secret that helping others releases endorphins, those feel-good chemicals in your brain. So, caring for someone else can give you an instant mood boost! 😊 Stress Reduction: Caring for others, and yourself, can actually lower your stress levels. When you focus on making someone else's day brighter, your own worries can temporarily take a back seat. 🌈 Stronger Connections: Caring deepens your relationships. Whether it's with family, friends, or new acquaintances, it creates bonds that last a lifetime. 👥 Let's back up our message with some real-world impact. Did you know that there are more than 2.65 million carers in Australia, which means about 1 in 9 people in Australia are carers. [1] And, there's an estimated 2-3 Young Carers in every single classroom, dedicating their lives to supporting family members with chronic illness, disability, addiction, or mental health issues. [2] It's a staggering number, and they need our support!
We know it's crucial to care for ourselves first – think of it as filling your own cup before filling others'. Just like you can't pour from an empty cup, taking care of yourself is a vital part of choosing to care. Remember, it's okay to ask for help when you need it, too. 💆♀️💆♂️
So, how can you 'Choose to Care' this week?
Reach out to a friend: Send a heartfelt message, share a laugh, or simply let them know you're there for them.
Support a cause: Consider donating to a Carer charity or any charity close to your heart.
Self-care: Take a little extra time for yourself this week. It's not selfish; it's self-love!
Speaking of supporting a cause, Caritas Australia has launched their Women For Ther World campaign, highlighting the work Caritas Australia does for women in poverty around the world. November 1st marks the Women For The World Gala Dinner Fundraiser in Sydney. You can support here. In a world that sometimes feels tough, choosing to care is an act of resilience, a testament to our shared humanity. 🌏❤️ Let's be the change we want to see. Remember, you have the power to make a difference. So, let's 'Choose to Care' and brighten up the world, one act of kindness at a time.
