Good Morning my friend,
Thanks for choosing to start your Tuesday with a Chooseday mindset.
It's Keep Australia Beautiful Week(Aug 15 - Aug 21) and that's why we're choosing to Clean Up! Did you know that Australia generates over 78 million tonnes of waste each year? Or that the average Australian produces over half a ton or 540 Kg of household waste annually? Today (and this week) is about doing the simple things every day to reduce our impact on our households and the environment. We're cleaning up and cleaning up our act to reduce our need to buy more, but instead, use less and reduce our overall waste. Also, cleaning up at home and getting rid of the clutter will help us tremendously too. Research from the National Library of Medicine found that clutter has a negatively cumulative effect on our brains. Our brains like order, but constant visual reminders of disorder (from clutter) saps away our cognitive resources - impacting our memory and focus - leaving us more stressed and irritable. Simply set aside 15 minutes once a week to go through what you need and don't need (usually things that haven't been used for 6 months or more). If the latter is still in good condition, Choose to donate them to a charity or re-gift it. Want to add more value to your gift that won't hurt the environment? While we Choose to Clean up today, plenty of charities and their volunteers
are cleaning up every single day.
Volunteering for charities with a single mission to keep our country clean is one
of the best ways to help reduce waste and pollution. In addition to supporting tourism and local economies, clean-ups protect wildlife and promote public awareness of the threat litter poses to wildlife and communities.
Keep Australia Beautiful
Keep Australia Beautiful (KAB) Week is an annual event in August and is a time for all Australians to think about how they can contribute to positive environmental change through their every day actions. They run various activities and programs that involve up to 3 million Australians each year.
Clean up to save our marine life
It's always an eyesore when we see litter wash up along with the ties at the beach. This happens every day on the Australian Coastline and the main culprit is unwanted plastic. To date, there have been plastic concentrations of 1000-40,000 plastic pieces per square kilometre. These charities are hard at work to clean up and help minimise the damage of excess waste.
A better environment for our wildlife and us
There are several causes that are committed to educate and inspire Australians about contributing to and achieving a thriving environment while keeping our natural habitats alive. According to a government report, the health of Australia’s environment is poor and has deteriorated over the last 5 years due to climate change, habitat loss, invasive species, pollution and mining. We Choose to learn more about what we can do and how to help.
