Chooseday Ep 34: Choose to be a Mo - November 8th, 2022

Thank you for choosing to start your day with a Chooseday mindset!

Did you know that one in eight men will experience depression at a point in their lives and one in five will have anxiety? Wherever you're from and whatever your background, you may have experienced, experiencing or know someone with these kinds of challenges. For men especially, it's more difficult because we're expected to be stoic - not show our tears or talk about our problems in public. It may sound innocuous, but if mental health is not addressed, it can lead to suicide, sicknesses, and higher mortaility. When we choose to be a "mo" this Movember (November), we're supporting a global charity that supports men's health where funds are raised to deliver breakghtough research and programs to help men live happier, healthier and longer lives. Be a mo by growing a moustache (easier, if you're a guy!), move for Movember, host a mo-ment (event) or mo your own way (choose to host a big challenge) - however you choose to be a mo, you'll be helping to raise funds to support men's health. Movember is a global charity focused on men’s health. The Foundation raises funds to deliver and support programs that enable men to live happier, healthier, and longer lives.

Our fathers, partners, brothers, and friends are silently facing a health crisis that isn’t being talked about and we can be a voice by doing something about it.

This week, it's also about being aware and supporting people or causes who deal with various health issues, particularly younger people who are trying to navigate this big world.

Headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. On Thursday, November 10th, the charity will hold its first national fundraising campaign “Million for Mental Health Day”.

The goal is to raise $1 million in one day to help the organisation support more families across Australia looking after young people experiencing mental health challenges.

Brain Injury Australia is the national peak advocacy organisation representing the needs of people with an acquired brain injury (ABI), their families and carers. ABI refers to the multiple disabilities arising from any damage to the brain that occurs after birth. Over 600,000 Australians have are affected.
