Chooseday 10th February, 💙 Choose to Shine Blue for International Angelman Day

Good Morning,

This Chooseday, let’s Choose to Shine Blue 💙 — because even the smallest spark of awareness can light the way for connection, understanding, and hope.

On 15 February, the world marks International Angelman Day — a global celebration of courage, community, and care for people living with Angelman syndrome, a rare neuro-genetic condition that affects about 1 in 15,000 peopleworldwide.

Right here in Australia, data from the NDIS suggests there are around 500 Australians living with Angelman syndrome, with many more likely undiagnosed.

Those affected often face severe developmental delays, speech challenges, balance and movement issues, and seizures, alongside an unmistakable spirit — frequent smiles and laughter that inspire everyone around them. And here’s where you can make a difference this Chooseday:

Look Up & Spot Blue! Around the world, iconic buildings and landmarks light up in blue to raise awareness — so keep your eyes open for blue illumination in your city or town!

💙 Learn Something New. A little knowledge goes a long way — share a fact or story about Angelman syndrome with a colleague or friend.

❤️ Support the Community. Organisations like Angelman Syndrome Association Australia and FAST Australia are driving connection, advocacy, research, and real-world support for families across the country — and they’re always grateful for a shout-out or donation.

In Australia, two leading organisations: the Angelman Syndrome Association Australia (ASAA) and FAST Australia (Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics) — play vital roles in ensuring that this day is not only about recognition, but also about action and hope.

The Angelman Syndrome Association Australia focuses on connection, support, and advocacy for families across the country.

ASAA works to build bridges between carers, clinicians, and policymakers, ensuring that the voices of those living with Angelman Syndrome are heard in systems that shape their daily lives.

Their efforts highlight inclusion, dignity, and practical relief for families, making International Angelman Syndrome Day a chance to amplify these values on a national stage.

FAST Australia focuses on strengthening the foundations that make progress possible - funding research, supporting high-quality data collection, and investing in clinical programs that improve care and trial readiness across the country.

By working with national and international partners, FAST Australia helps ensure Australia remains prepared for emerging therapies and positioned to contribute meaningfully to global research efforts.

👉 Choose to do something good today: wear blue, start a conversation, or amplify awareness on social media. Awareness isn’t just a moment... it’s a movement.

Together, let’s make this Chooseday one that shines brightly with compassion, connection, and community impact.

💙 Happy Chooseday!
