Chooseday 13th May, Choose To Push Up - And Make a Difference!

Good Morning,

We all know that moving our bodies is good for us—but did you know just how powerful exercise can be for our mental health?

🧠 Physical activity is one of the most effective ways to improve mental wellbeing. Just 30 minutes of exercise a day can boost your mood, improve sleep, reduce stress, and help manage anxiety and depression.

Here’s the proof:

  • People who exercise regularly have 43% lower risk of poor mental health compared to those who don’t exercise at all (he Lancet Psychiatry, 2018).

  • Exercise has been shown to be as effective as antidepressants for some individuals with mild to moderate depression (Harvard Medical School, 2021).

  • Physical inactivity contributes to over 5 million deaths globally each year (World Health Organization, 2020).

  • In Australia, around 1 in 5 people aged 16–85 experience a mental health disorder each year (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2023).

Getting active can also increase productivity and reduce burnout—benefitting your mind, body, and workplace.

👊 That’s why this week, we’re backing The Push-Up Challenge—a fun, accessible way to boost fitness, start conversations, and raise funds for mental health.

Join The Push-Up Challenge, starting on the 4th of June 💪

The Push-Up Challenge is a unique and fun way for organisations to encourage better mental health and wellbeing through physical activity, connection and mental health education.

Participants can also choose to raise funds for key mental health organisations Lifeline, headspace or the Push for Better Foundation.

💪 Sign your workplace up for Australia's largest mental health and fitness event.

This June, Australians will take on 3,214 push-ups over 23 days. Each day of the challenge, participants have a different push-up target that corresponds with a mental health fact, designed to educate and generate conversations about mental health in the workplace.

The Push Up Challenge prides itself on being an inclusive event, encouraging participants to do half the push-up target or do alternate exercises such as squats or sit ups. The important thing is to get moving in a way that feels good for you!

💪 How to get involved:

1. You can register your workplace by creating a team or community which will allow you to track your funds raised and push-ups as a workplace.

2. You can then set up a fundraiser on GoodCompany.
