Good Morning,
April 28th marks World Day for Safety and Health at Work – a day that puts the spotlight on creating safer, healthier working environments for everyone, everywhere.
Whether you're on a job site, in an office, on the road, or working from home, your safety matters. Because no one should risk their life or wellbeing simply by showing up to do their job. 👷♀️
The reality is sobering. Every year, a staggering 2.78 million people die from work-related injuries or diseases globally (ILO, 2023). That’s nearly 7,700 lives lost every single day.
In addition, around 374 million non-fatal work-related injuries and illnesses are recorded annually, often resulting in extended absences from work (ILO). These aren’t just numbers — they’re people, families, and communities affected.
💛 Closer to home, Safe Work Australia reported over 120,000 serious work injury claims in a single year. That’s more than 300 every day in Australia alone. Most of these were preventable, caused by unsafe environments, lack of awareness, or poor mental health support.

So, what can we do?
🧠 Prioritise mental wellbeing – stress and burnout are silent hazards.
💬 Speak up about unsafe conditions – it could save a life.
📚 Educate yourself and your team – knowledge is safety.
👀 Check in with your teammates – especially in high-pressure roles.
Safety isn’t just physical – it’s emotional, mental, and cultural. Creating workplaces where people feel protected, valued, and empowered is everyone’s responsibility.
Want to take action today? 💛
Support a charity helping make Australian workplaces safer and healthier:
👉 Beyond Blue – leading the charge in workplace mental health programs and support.
👉 Run for Mental Health - empowering people to thrive through optimal physical and mental health.
👉 The Push for Better Foundation - engaging and educating people in mental and physical health.

And here’s one more way to boost safety, health and team morale…
Volunteering! It doesn’t just help the community — it helps you.
Studies show that volunteers experience a 22% higher life satisfaction rate and improved physical and mental health (Volunteering Australia, 2023). It’s a powerful way to bond with your team, reduce stress, and boost your sense of purpose.
👐 There’s never been a better time to organise a volunteering day for your crew.
