Every year on December 18, we celebrate International Migrants Day, honoring the courage, contributions, and rights of migrants around the globe. 🌏
💛This day marks the adoption of a groundbreaking UN convention in 1990 to protect migrant workers and their families.
Migration is a story of hope, resilience, and new beginnings—but it’s also marked by challenges. Since 2014, nearly 70,000 migrants have tragically lost their lives or gone missing. Behind each statistic is a person, a family, and a community deeply impacted.
Did you know? 11% of children from a refugee or asylum seeker background suffer from PTSD.
50% of children and young people of refugee background (0-17 years) live in relative poverty compared with 14% of other 0-17-year-olds in Australia.
Students born outside Australia are less likely to be in full-time employment after graduation (45%) than domestic students (69%).
Here in Australia, we have an opportunity to create a brighter future for migrants and refugees, especially the children navigating a new life.
The Refugee Migrant Children Centre (RMCC) is making a life-changing difference for young people from refugee, asylum seeker, and migrant backgrounds. Their tailored mentoring programs focus on:
📚 Education – Helping children thrive in school.
🌏 Identity and Belonging – Building confidence and connection.
🤝 Life Skills – Teaching independence and integration.
💙 Mental Health – Supporting trauma recovery and wellbeing.
Since 2012, RMCC has empowered over 800 children to overcome challenges and seize opportunities. Their work ensures these young people—and their communities—can thrive.
