Chooseday 17th March, Choose Happiness

Good Morning,

Indeed a Happy ChooseDay! 💛

With the International Day of Happiness coming up on Thursday 20 March, this week we’re inviting you to pause for a moment and choose happiness.

In a time where news cycles, deadlines and responsibilities can easily pull our focus toward the negative, choosing happiness can be a powerful act. It doesn’t have to be grand or life-changing... often it’s the small moments that matter most.

A quiet coffee before the morning rush.

A five-minute walk around the block between meetings.

A spontaneous lunch outing with a colleague.

A laugh in the kitchen while making tea.

A few deep breaths before opening your inbox.

These moments might seem simple, but they can have real impact on our health and wellbeing.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW, 2024), around 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health condition in any given year, highlighting how important everyday wellbeing practices can be.

Meanwhile, research from Beyond Blue (2023) shows that small daily wellbeing habits — like movement, social connection and moments of enjoyment — can significantly support mood, stress levels and resilience.

Simply put: making space for joy matters.

And the beautiful thing about happiness is that it’s contagious. When we choose small moments of joy for ourselves, we often pass that feeling on to others too.

🌟 Choose Happiness Today

Here are three simple ways you can choose happiness at work today:

Choose a pause

Step away from your desk for five minutes. Grab a coffee, take a breath, or stretch your legs.

🚶 Choose movement

Take a short walk around the block between meetings, or work outside if you can - fresh air can reset your mind.

💬 Choose connection

Invite a colleague to lunch, share a laugh in the kitchen, or check in with someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.

And if you’d like to create happiness for someone else today, here’s a beautiful way to do it.

For just $2, you can help provide a free haircut through Short Back & Sidewalks.

Many people experiencing hardship don’t have access to something as simple as a haircut, but it can make an enormous difference to confidence, dignity and wellbeing.

Short Back & Sidewalks partners with service providers across Australia, offering free hair-cutting services delivered by volunteer barbers and hairdressers to people doing it tough.

The organisation currently operates in Western Australia, New South Wales, the Northern Territory and Victoria, helping thousands of Australians feel seen, cared for and confident again.

Sometimes the smallest act can make the biggest difference.

This ChooseDay, remember: happiness doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to be chosen.

Wishing you a week filled with small, joyful moments.
