Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is the most common congenital condition in Australia—and one of the leading causes of infant death. It strikes before a child even has the chance to take their first breath.

Every 3 hours in Australia, a baby is born with a congenital heart disease.

8 families are impacted by CHD every day.

80,000 Australians are living with CHD today.

4 children die from CD in Australia every week.

There is no known cure.

But there is a choice:

As June 30 approaches, join the HeartKids Tax Appeal to support the 250,000 Australians living with childhood-onset heart disease (CoHD).

For nearly 50 years, HeartKids has supported families on their CoHD journey. With over 40 Community Support Coordinators across the country, we provide dedicated care, advocacy, and practical help to children, teens, and adults, like Lylah. 🧡

At just 19 months, Lylah was diagnosed with severe pulmonary hypertension and multiple heart defects after more than a year of hospital visits in remote Esperance, 700 km from Perth. By then, it was too late for surgery. “She couldn’t be fixed. I was terrified,” says her mum, Jaymee.

Today, Lylah is non-verbal, non-mobile, and dependent on round-the-clock oxygen and breathing support. She’s endured over 20 hospitalisations, spinal surgery, and multiple emergency flights. For families in remote areas, isolation adds even more challenges, but HeartKids has been by their side every step. “HeartKids is like family. We’re never alone,” Jaymee shares.
