Chooseday 12th May - Choose Nutrient-Dense Foods 🥑

Good Morning,

This Chooseday, choose nutrient-dense foods over the quick sugar fix.

We all know the feeling… it’s 3pm, your energy dips, concentration disappears, and suddenly that sugary snack or second (... or third) coffee feels like the only option.

But while quick sugar fixes might give us a temporary boost, they often leave us feeling more tired not long after. Choosing nutrient-dense foods — foods rich in vitamins, minerals, fibre and protein — can help support steadier energy, better focus and overall wellbeing throughout the workday.

And the stats are telling. In Australia, ABS found that around one-third (31.3%) of our daily energy intake comes from discretionary foods and drinks — often high in sugar, salt and saturated fat, but low in nutritional value. At the same time, poor nutrition continues to impact energy, concentration and productivity at work.

The good news? Small choices can make a big difference.

This week, try swapping the quick sugar hit for something more nourishing:

🥜 Swap chips or chocolate for nuts, seeds or trail mix for longer-lasting energy

🍎 Keep fruit at your desk for an easy afternoon pick-me-up

🥙 Choose protein-rich lunches that help avoid the mid-afternoon slump

💧 Stay hydrated — dehydration can often feel like fatigue

Pair coffee with real fuel rather than relying on caffeine alone

Because when we nourish ourselves better, we often feel better — more energised, focused and ready to tackle the day.

The reality is: many of us have the privilege of choice. We can decide what goes into our lunchbox, pantry or shopping trolley.

But for millions of people globally, access to nutritious food — or even knowledge about the nutrient-dense plants growing around them — isn’t always available.

That’s where Food Plant Solutions comes in 💚

By helping communities understand how to grow, source and prepare nutrient-rich local foods, Food Plant Solutions is creating lasting change to combat food insecurity and malnutrition around the world.

👉 This Chooseday, choose to nourish communities through food security.

The Urgent Need 🌍

Food Plant Solutions (FPS) is a Tasmanian not-for-profit helping tackle malnutrition and food insecurity through practical nutrition education around the world.

Founded in 2007, FPS creates simple, science-based resources that help communities identify and use local nutrient-dense food plants. By combining agriculture and nutrition, they deliver sustainable, long-term impact through trusted in-country partners. Your donation helps provide life-changing knowledge to communities that need it most.

Impact and Your Opportunity 🌱

Recently, FPS signed a three-year partnership with World Vision International and presented alongside global organisations including the FAO, IFAD, WFP and Rotary International on strengthening food security through practical nutrition education.

When communities can understand and access the nutritious plants growing around them, diets improve, agriculture diversifies and resilience to climate shocks grows. Your support helps empower communities to take control of their own nutrition — creating healthier, stronger and more food-secure futures.

Because good nutrition shouldn’t depend on geography or circumstance.

This week, choose to support a future where communities can grow stronger, healthier and more resilient through the power of practical nutrition education.

🥑 Help build a food secure world.

Every donation helps empower communities with life-changing knowledge to unlock the potential of local, nutrient-dense plants — creating healthier futures for generations to come.

Choose to nourish communities through food security today.
