Chooseday 3rd February, Choose to Be Safe

Good Morning,

This Chooseday, we’re choosing something we all use every single day — the internet.

With Safer Internet Day happening this Saturday 7 February, it’s a great moment to pause and think about how we can all be a little safer online — at work, at home, and in our communities.

Because staying safe online isn’t just an IT issue — it’s a people issue.

šŸ’¼ Choose to be safe at work

Small habits can make a big difference:

  • Use strong, unique passwords (and a password manager if you can)

  • Enable multi-factor authentication wherever possible

  • Be alert to phishing emails — especially urgent or ā€œtoo good to be trueā€ messages

  • Lock your screen when you step away from your desk

  • Keep software and devices updated

šŸ¤ Choose to be safe in charities & community organisations

For organisations handling sensitive data, good cyber hygiene matters:

  • Limit access to personal or financial information

  • Back up data regularly

  • Train staff and volunteers on cyber safety basics

  • Use secure payment and donation platforms

  • Have a clear plan for responding to cyber incidentsĀ

šŸ  Choose to be safe for families & young people

Online safety starts with open conversations:

  • Talk regularly about online behaviour and boundaries

  • Encourage privacy settings on apps and social platforms

  • Remind kids not to share personal information online

  • Teach them to speak up if something doesn’t feel right

  • Model healthy digital habits as adults

šŸ’™ Choose to support safer online communities

You can also turn awareness into action by supporting organisations creating safer digital spaces.

For $200, you can fund a Digital Licence for 20 students, giving them access to Australia’s leading online safety education program — endorsed by the Office of the eSafety Commissioner.Ā

The program:

• Teaches kids how to play, learn and socialise safely online

• Builds critical digital literacy and cyber safety skills

• Encourages conversations between students, parents and teachers

• Uses interactive modules and quizzes designed by educators, psychologists and cyber safety expertsĀ

It’s a simple way to help young people navigate the digital world with confidence and care.

This Chooseday, let’s choose awareness.

Let’s choose better habits.

Let’s choose to be safe — online and beyond.Ā
