Chooseday 14th October, Choose Better Food for a Better Future!

ree

Good Morning,

🍎 World Food Day is Coming – Let’s Talk About Food, Fairness & Filling Bellies!

October 16 marks World Food Day, and this year’s theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Food and a Better Future,” is a delicious reminder that food is more than fuel—it’s a human right, a connector of cultures, and a key to thriving communities

.But here’s the not-so-fun fact: according to the Foodbank Hunger Report 2024, more than 1 in 3 Victorian households couldn’t afford the food they needed last year. For 500,000 households, that’s not just skipping a snack—it’s skipping meals, choosing between dinner and the electricity bill or going days without food.

🥦 Why Nutritious Food MattersAccess to healthy food isn’t just about full tummies—it’s about better health, stronger learning, and brighter futures.

Did you know:

  • Kids who eat breakfast are twice as likely to score higher in tests.

  • A healthy diet can reduce the risk of chronic disease by up to 80%.

  • Yet, 1 in 3 food-insecure Australians say they regularly skip fresh fruit and vegetables due to cost.

💜 Enter: Foodbank Victoria – The oldest and largest food relief charity in the state.

Every single day, Foodbank Victoria helps feed 69,000 Victorians—that’s enough people to fill the Marvel Stadium! In the past year alone, they’ve:

  • Delivered 25.1 million meals across the state*.

  • Distributed 13.9 million kilograms of food and groceries*.

  • Supported almost 500 charities and 1,200+ schools*.

  • Served their 55 millionth school breakfast (yes, 55 million!) *.

And they’re not stopping there. With new regional Community Food Centres in Ballarat and Morwell, and mobile supermarket buses across metropolitan Melbourne, Foodbank is making healthy food more accessible than ever.

🥕 How You Can Help

Whether it’s donating, volunteering, or just spreading the word, you can be part of the solution. Every $1 donated = 2 meals. That’s a pretty tasty return on investment.

So, this World Food Day, let’s celebrate the power of food—and the power of community. Because when we work hand in hand, we can make sure no Victorian goes hungry.
