Good Morning,
Today, on World Mental Health Day (7 October), we’re reminded that mental health touches us all — in our workplaces, families, and friendships. 🌱
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics:
Approximately 42.9% of Australians aged 16–85 have experienced a mental disorder at some point in their lives.
About 21.5% of Australians in the same age group experienced a mental disorder in the past 12 months.
Anxiety disorders are the most common, affecting 17.2% of Australians aged 16–85 in the past year.
Nearly 39% of individuals in this age group reported a mental disorder in the previous year.
These aren’t just statistics — they’re stories. They belong to our colleagues, friends, and sometimes, to us. 💚
Treating ourselves with understanding and patience helps us manage stress, build resilience, and better support those around us. By practicing self‑kindness, we not only improve our own wellbeing but also strengthen the broader culture of care that underpins effective mental health initiatives.

🌿 Support mental health initiatives making a difference
Supporting groundbreaking research to prevent, diagnose and treat mental illness.
Helping young people build resilience and access early support.
Offering 24/7 mental health support to Australians in need.
The power of volunteering: joy, purpose & wellbeing.
Volunteering doesn’t just help the community — it helps you. Recent Australian research shows:
Doing volunteer work is strongly associated with better perceived mental health, life satisfaction, self-esteem, and happiness. volunteeringaustralia.org

In the 2023 Snapshot of Volunteering in Australia, volunteering was tied to a 4.3% increase in wellbeing, and contributed to a 14% boost in workplace productivity. The Centre for Volunteering
For young people age 18-24: about 29.7% volunteered formally in 2023. Even volunteering fewer hours still gave positive mental health returns. volunteeringaustralia.org
Volunteering brings something special: a sense of purpose, connection, doing meaningful work, and feeling valued — and those things matter for mental health. 🕊️

What you can do — for yourself & others
Take a moment today to check in with yourself. How are you, truly?
Consider volunteering (if you can): even a small commitment can ripple out in big ways.
Reach out to those who may be struggling — letting them know they are seen can mean everything.
💚 Let’s choose empathy, understanding, and support — today and every day. Because caring for our minds is just as important as caring for our bodies.
Thanks for choosing to do good,
The GoodCompany Team
